A torso is defined as the body excluding the head, neck and limbs. Sculptures of the Grecian Geometric Period were done in bronze, wood, ivory, and clay. Some were used as trophies or for votive statues placed in temples to represent the subject in state of prayer. Figures were usually hollow cast in bronze because it was a more flexible and stable medium to work in that way.
