The Greek vases offered here have relatively large openings at the top because they are commonly used for holding flowers or ornamentations. These were produced from about the 12th century B.C. thru 8th century B.C. The artists of the day used stick-like figures of men and animals. It was only in later periods that figures of men and gods began to be become more realistic and were painted in black to contrast with the vase red clay base material.
