S Rape of Sabine

The early Roman Empire has an interesting story about some of the first women of Roman history. The initial citizenry of Rome, founded by Romulus who humbly named the city "Roma" after himself, was made up largely of outlaws, fugitives and criminals from abroad. The Empire of the Roman civilization had a serious shortage of wives in the beginning because most of the early Roman criminal types were not women. However, there were women in local proximity to the early Empire, but the Romans were not allowed permission to have access to them. Two sides were at war until 268 BC when the Sabine native Italian tribes, led by their king Titus Tatius finally ended the war on Romulus's Roma (a word for Rome) and were granted full citizenship to the Empire of the Romans in return.
