This beautiful piece of carved stone represents the Son of Venus, Aphrodite. In Greek mythology, he is the god of love, but is also known as the cupid of the Romans. He is the youngest of the gods, however is father was unknown. It is speculated that it was either Zeus, Area, or Hermes. As all the cartoons and depictions of Cupid show, he wields a quiver from which he draws arrows to shoot into peoples hearts, making them fall in love with another. Sometimes, he was seem armed with a helmet, shield and spear, and often depicted riding a lion or dolphin. The actual man was muscular and fit, though the modern trend for Cupid is a fat baby with angel wings.
