Discus Thrower Bust

The Greek discus thrower (Discobolus) is the most famous olympic statue and was sculpted by the artist Myron around 460 BC. Considered by many to still represent the perfect athletic form. The Greek Discus Thrower is one of the most famous classic Greek statues from this period. Myron's athlete engages in the discus throw and boasts a vigorous and convincing movement in perfect form.
The thrower's flexing muscles and concentrated expression create the impression of a tightly stretched bow the moment before the string is released. Discobolus was originally sculpted in bronze and has been reproduced in a variety of mediums. The original Discus Thrower can be found at the National Museum in Rome, at the Vatican.
