Some goddesses were known by
different names to Greeks and Romans, but they still had
the same attributes. For example, Aphrodite is the Greek
name while Venus is the Roman name for the same goddess
of love and beauty. Also Artemis is the Greek name for
the same goddess called Diana by the Romans and she
was known for being the daughter of Zeus and the goddess
of hunting and of war.
Ancient legends say that goddesses are blessed with
the gifts of fertility and the seasons, and were thought
to be the givers of civilization and were worshiped for
their wisdom. Goddesses were often defenders of heroes
and champions of justice and civil law. Many goddesses
were also portrayed with plants or flowers to symbolize
their connection to seasonal fertility. Classical feminine
art presents a mystery, power and beauty that continues
to captivate generations of viewers for time immortal.
