Ionic Angle Column (Corinthian)

This is an ornamented adaptation of an ancient Ionic column, or interior pillar, styled with a distinctive floral capital of acanthus tendrils and volutes (flowers). Kallimachos is said to have been inspired to create this ionic column when he saw a votive (flower) basket on the grave of young woman that had acanthus leaves growing up around it. There is also some suggestion that the ionic column-pillar was more likely to have been based on the concept of the flower of life and the tree of life plants - controlled exclusively by the gods since time immortal.
