S Charioteer of Delphi Bust Grecian Olympiad
The facial expression given by this Grecian Olympiad is one of exuberance and proudness. The moment of victory, basking in the glory of the winner following a race in the Olympics. This sculpture depicts the driver of the chariot race at the moment when he presents his team of horses and trusty chariot to the spectators. His humility has an intensity destined to captivate the viewer, as he emanates humanity and idealism through the subtle details of the hair curls, the eyes fixed staring into infinity with the delicate intensity of certainty. Stylistically, the Charioteer is classed as “Early Classical”, or “Severe”, and is more naturalistic than the previous Archaic period style.
