S Venus De Milo

In the early 19th Century the sculpture of Venus de Milo like the one in the picture was discovered in an underground cavern on the Aegean island of Melos by a Greek farmer digging in his field. The sculpture of Venus was missing arms and it is believed that one hand held a shield while the other hand held a mirror so that she could admire her own beauty. After a unique series of events, the French acquired the sculpture and renamed it the Venus de Milo. This sculpture is a reproduction.
